Sunday Stew: June 4, 2001

Sunday Stew is a weekly meme hosted by Shannon of Books Devored.

Bookmark Cover of the WeekI am fascinated by beautiful book covers and since Shannon encouraged us Stewers to make this meme our own, I'm going to the cover I love.  I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but sometimes covers are so inviting I just can't help it.
It's no secret that Jenny B. Jones is one of my favorite bloggers/authors, and her latest book, There You'll Find Me, a YA spin-off from her adult novel, Save the Date, looks so sweet and inviting.  I enjoy mucking around the water's edge looking for turtles, frogs, and other wildlife, so hanging out in rubber boots holding the hand of a rugged outdoorsy guy is totally appealing to me.  Plus, I love the font used in the title.

Around The Web: This week's Friday Faves on Backseat Writer was dedicated to my hilarious neighbors, so you better check out, "Friday Faves: The Eddy-and-Anastasia Edition."  Also, if you've noticed a recent surge in GFC followers, that's because the lovely and talented Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View asked me to be her Featured Blogger for this past week's Feature & Follow Friday.  As I said on Twritter, being featured on PJV's is like Charlie getting the golden ticket to the chocolate factory.

And here's a video of Pomplamoose doing a crazy cool verson of the Angry Birds theme.  Love it!

Now, for this week's exciting giveaways...

I've got nothing as of now.  Not too exciting, is it?  Check back later...I do have to go through my feed.

Around Me:  This weekend was the exciting COMMUNITY YARD SALE (it's so exciting, put it in CAPS).  Usually, I find some pretty amazing stuff, like books and random vintage-y stuff that makes my heart sing.  While this Community Yard Sale 2011 wasn't as good as other years (translation: no book finds), I did manage to snag a Keurig for $5 (actually my mom bought it for me.  Thanks, Mom!), a 2 MP Canon camera for $1 (if you knew my love for Canon, you would understand.  I'm going this to my mom.  You're welcome, Mom!), a cute butterfly pot/planter for a quarter (for Mom), aaaaaaaaand this fantastic old typewriter for $3.  I need to clean it up and take some better pictures of it, but isn't it lovely?

I applied an "Old Photo" filter, then a "Sepia" filter and brightened the picture to produce this...
I am salivating at the possibilities this picture has for Backseat Writer's typewriter-ish look.  Maybe a new logo or banner ad?  I think so...or that logo-awaited Friday Faves logo?

A still from X:Men:First Class, in which James McAvoy looks cute.
I also went to see X-Men: First Class starring James McAvoy and some other people.  OK, Kevin Bacon should get a mention because I like him, too.  Plus, he did a phenomenal job as Sebastian Shaw, which of course, we all expect being as he's Kevin Bacon.  All-in-all, the movie was alright.  I hate how comic books always screw with the canon.  They don't like the way a plot is going, just create an alternate universe or a new comic book series.  You literary people know what I mean!  I mean, Hank McCoy did not become a blue monster UNTIL Professor X opened his school for the gifted, admitted Jean Gray, stupid Cyclops (I never liked that guy), Angel, and Iceman. (If you want an actual review of the movie, here's a good one.  It's pretty much what I would say without taking about how much I love James McAvoy and Kevin Bacon.)

Jennifer Lawrence was also in the movie, and while some people are skeptical about her role in the upcoming Hunger Games movies, she seems like a tough chick who's a decent actress.  No worries, guys!

I said I'd post a picture of my TBR book pile, but there's so much excitement going on with James McAvoy and typewriters, I'll hold off on that.  So I leave you with this--a picture of James McAvoy to swoon at.  I don't think any guys read this blog, so I'm not worried about offending the males among us.

James McAvoy and I hope you have a lovely week!

  2. Hey Amy,

Who cares about the boys...James McAvoy is YUM!!!! :)

Oh, the typewriter is BEAUTIFUL. Do you think you'll be using it, or will it merely be ornamental? I have an old typewriter I absolutely love - but the ink-ribbon for it is so darn expensive, I'd be applying for bankruptcy if I began typing my MS on it! I would love to, though - so perhaps if I win the lotto, that's the way I'll go. Canon is absolutely amazing, so I'm right there with ya. Another awesome SS post! :D
